I have 2 children with ADHD. One of them (my mini-me) is extremely smart and is on the high-functioning end of the Autism spectrum. She has OCD, a sensory-processing disorder, etc., and has a very unique thought process. I have learned a lot about how to help children with this gift adapt to the world around them, what verbal cues to give them to help them focus instead of getting lost in their world, and how to help them function more easily in society overall. It isn't foolproof - life in general isn't foolproof. But my daughter is much less stressed and has much better behavior now than she used to, and it isn't forced, she isn't medicated out of her mind, and I don't pander to her or use her autism as a crutch or excuse for poor behavior. She is not being held back, she is encouraged to see what she is capable of. So, if you want to see what I have learned from my daughter, let me know. It's nothing major, many people probably already do most of what I have done, but maybe I will have some ideas you haven't thought of yet. :)
Some of my favorite quotes:

Don't speak without thinking when you're angry. Words are like bullets. Once spoken, you can't take them back and the damage they do can be permanent. You'll regret hurting the other person when you're not angry anymore - remind yourself of that while you're angry.
Never make a permanent decision based on temporary emotions. Nothing lasts forever, including the hard times. So when you're feeling like there's no light at the end of the tunnel, remember it can't last forever even if it feels like it will. Don't let your emotions cloud your judgement.
We don't stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing.
Life is about learning to dance in the rain, taking time to smell the roses, and never getting too busy making a living to have a life.
The trip isn't always about the destination, it's about the journey you make to get there and the memories you make along the way.
You can't take money and things with you, but you can leave good memories with the ones you leave behind, and that is worth more than all the money in the world.

I changed some of them to be more personable to me, but they are all good advice nontheless. I hope you enjoyed them. The first one has helped save my relationship (now marriage) several times, and the second one saved my life a couple of times in the past 18 months.
If I can be of help, let me know.
