Sue Johnson is a clinical psychologist and a recognized leader in the new science of relationships. She is the developer of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy – a tested and most successful approach to building loving relationships. Dr. Johnson is Director of the Ottawa (Canada) Couple and Family Institute and the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) as well as Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Ottawa and Research Professor at Alliant University in San Diego, California. She is the author of the book Hold Me Tight, Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love - a streamlined version of EFT for the general public in addition to several professional books and numerous articles and papers.
She has received numerous honors including the Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Couple and Family Therapy Award from the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and the Research in Family Therapy Award from the American Family Therapy Academy. She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association.
She trains therapists in EFT worldwide and consults to the U.S. and Canadian military and New York City Fire Department.
She lives in Ottawa with her husband, two children and dog.
