Steven Carter is the author of twenty-seven books, including The New York Times bestseller "Men Who Can't Love" (over 5 million copies in print worldwide), "What Smart Women Know", "He's Scared, She's Scared", "Getting to Commitment", “Men Like Women Who Like Themselves”, “This Is How Love Works”, and "Help! I'm In Love With A Narcissist." He has also worked as a ghostwriter. Carter, who has been writing about relationships for over thirty years with co-author Julia Sokol, coined the phrase `commitmentphobia' and is recognized as the foremost expert on the subject of commitment and commitmentphobia.
Carter has been a frequent guest on popular national television talk shows, including Oprah, The Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, Donahue, Charlie Rose and Politically Incorrect. He is also a regular contributor to dozens of popular magazines and various newspapers (The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, etc.). He has most recently been featured in The Wall Street Journal, PARADE, and The Los Angeles Times.

More than three dozen foreign editions of "What Smart Women Know", "He's Scared, She's Scared", "What Really Happens in Bed", "Men Like Women Who Like Themselves" and "Getting to Commitment" have been published worldwide.
In 2007 "What Smart Women Know" climbed to the top of Brazil’s bestseller lists. It stayed on these lists for a record-breaking 110 weeks. In April of 2008, "Men Like Women Who Like Themselves" (the sequel to What Smart Women Know) joined its sibling on Brazil’s bestseller lists for 55 weeks. The books were published in Brazil by Editora Sextante, publisher of Paulo Coelho, Dan Brown, and Augusto Cury. Carter's first two Brazilian titles have "evergreen" status at Editora Sextante and were featured at the 2011 and 2012 Bienal do Livros.
Steven Carter lives in Los Angeles, California. His most recent book, Os Segredos das Mulheres Inteligentes was published by Editora Sextante in 2010.
