Sandi Kimmel is an inspirational speaker, songwriter and music healer, bringing her blend of spirit, story and song to a wide variety of audiences. Her three popular CDs of original “music you hear with your heart,” TRANSITIONS, MUSIC IN MY SOUL and REACH UP, are popular with people of all ages, uplifting listeners with her warm and soothing voice, tuneful songs and loving energy. A voice of optimism and faith, Sandi shares her way of looking at the world, which is both joyful and authentic, with audiences everywhere.
Called “a lifeguard in a sea of negativity” and “a born teacher of all things that help people find their dreams,” Sandi weaves positive music with ancient wisdom to touch the heart and nourish the soul. A natural “uplifter,” she uses her songs and her heart to deliver motivational messages of empowerment, self-discovery and self-acceptance, and gently assists audiences in making positive and lasting changes in their lives by embracing their own potential and authenticity. She has presented keynotes, concerts and workshops at national conferences, state associations, wellness retreats, hospitals, spiritual centers, and many other venues.
Sandi’s began her musical love affair as a “Broadway baby,” loving the big sound of Rogers & Hammerstein and Lerner & Lowe. She memorized entire scores of popular shows and entertained family, friends and neighbors at every opportunity. Along the way, she also became mesmerized by the acoustic sounds, rich harmonies and songwriting styles of Simon & Garfunkel, Peter, Paul & Mary, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and began playing guitar and writing songs about all she observed. (Her unique style was once called a cross between Irving Berlin and Joan Baez.) Serious about her songwriting, Sandi honed her craft as a member of the prestigious BMI Musical Theatre Workshop with Lehman Engel, as well as classes at the Songwriters Guild, the American Guild of Authors & Composers, and the Guitar Study Center, among others.
After 15 years as a public relations executive for Fortune 500 companies, Sandi returned to her first love – singing her own songs. Her own inner journey led her to explore meditation and yoga, and she was soon teaching “Yoga for the Reluctant,” stress reduction and meditation to thousands of people in the New York area. Still writing and performing, Sandi’s path came into focus one evening after a performance when a woman in the audience hugged her and said, “That wasn’t a concert. It was a healing.” From that moment on, Sandi devoted her life to the healing power of music, sharing her songs, her heart and all she’s learned with hospice patients, hospital staffs, caregiver support groups and diverse audiences around the country.
Sandi is a founding member of the Healing Music Organization and the Positive Music Association. In addition to her teaching and her music, she is an award-winning writer who has been published in Family Circle Magazine, and has earned first place awards for some of her stories. She is currently featured in two books MESSAGES IN A BOTTLE: An Era of Transformation by Phil Harris, and the CHANTNAL, a collection of chants from around the world. Together with her husband, Patrick Murphy, Sandi created HEART WIDE OPEN – Self-Care for Caregivers, a unique handbook filled with tips to help people come back into balance. Hospitals, clergy, support centers, hospices, volunteer organizations and caregivers of every kind are using HEART WIDE OPEN to ease caregiver stress. Together, they founded Sterling Heart, a company dedicated to making positive change in the world through heart-centered music, programs, products and services.
