Rev. Dr. ED GOLDEN
Ed earned his Masters in Counseling Psychology and Doctorate in Theology from Southwest University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Former Missouri Board Certified & Internationally Certified Substance Abuse Counselor.
He is an ordained Unity Minister, and served on a National Minister's Assistance Team, for helping impaired ministers to attain recovery. He was Senior Minister in one Unity Church and Minister of Administration in two others, including the Founders Church in Kansas City. He is past President of the Blue Springs Minister’s Alliance. Ed is currently Chaplain for the Inter-City Fire Protection District in Kansas City. He worked with the Ministry for the Aging to provide worship services for local senior homes on a monthly rotation with other ministers.
More than 30 years as a speaker in the field of Addiction Recovery throughout the United States.
Served on the Speaker's Bureau for the National Council On Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, and provided substance abuse education to schools, civic groups, churches, businesses, and various clubs. Helped to write and teach the “How To Cope” program for families with an active substance abuser.
Former Director of Addiction Recovery & Homeless Services for a local Mental Health Agency, and coordinated Addiction Recovery Services for another local counseling service.
Programs implemented, evaluated, and Managed included Adult In Patient, Out Patient, Adolescent C STAR, Homeless, and consulted with counselors on program for male Cubans who were chemically dependent/mentally ill.
He is the Founder and President of Celebration of Life Counseling & Consulting.
Author of, “The Unhooked Celebration",a book on Nicotine Addiction Recovery. He has provided hundreds of seminars and classes for people in the process of quitting, since becoming a non-smoker in 1982.
He has been published in magazines, and other periodicals on topics of Personal and Spiritual Development, Motivation and Goal Achievement, Addiction Recovery, Family and Marriage issues, in articles, poetry, programs, and books. His current work is entitled, "From Skid Row To The Front Row, or When Drugs And Poverty Stop Working".
He was very active in Inter-Agency activities in the Recovery Community. He was the original Executive Director of the Greater Independence Housing Coalition, was Chair of the Skills Development Team for Project Neighborhood, a member of the Western Region Area Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs, and served on the Board of Directors for Independence Plan For Neighborhood Councils. Served as speaker and committee member for the Coalition for Positive Family Relationships.
In the community, Ed is past president of the Blue Springs Minister's Alliance, was a member of the "Champions For Children" with the Blue Springs Police Department Youth Outreach Unit, Past President of his Homeowners Association for 7 years, and uses his woodworking hobby to provide children's furniture and other items for less fortunate families and institutions. He was a member of the Drug Free Grad Night for Blue Springs North High School. He sponsored the Rib Contest for the Blue Springs Bar-B-Q Blaze Off for 7 years, and served on the Committee for 9 years. He is the founder of the YOU Scholarship award, which gives $500.00 per year to youth who graduate from the Youth Outreach Unit and goes to college. The fund is to be used to purchase books and supplies.
Sponsored a little league football team for Odessa Little League, Inc. He served on the Blue Springs Well Link Committee, which furnishes dental care for children in the community.
He is vice president and treasurer for Operation Tbermal Reunion, Inc., a not for profit organization that hosts charity golf tournaments to raise funds to purchase Thermal Imaging cameras for fire fighters. Twice nominated for Blue Springs Citizen of the Year, 2005 and 2006. Voted Citizen of the Year for 2007 by the Blue Springs Police Department. He is currently working with Officer Mike Russell as an advisor to the S.A.D.D. chapter of Blue Springs North High School.
Ed owned an independent Real Estate Brokerage- Was Top Producing Rookie in East Branch area of Kansas City for three consecutive quarters 1997-1998. Sold over $4 million in 1998. Member of 100% Club-1998. Was given Cooperative Spirit Award for office in 1998. Children=s Miracle Network Ambassador for Blue Springs office. Elected Vice President of Membership, WCR-1999. He is the founder and President of the Golden Family Student Assistance Foundation, which is a fund that helps children to stay in school.
As a trainer for international seminar companies, hundreds of CEO=s and plant managers were trained in how to develop an effective plant layout using “Lean Manufacturing” techniques. Much of the content is devoted to the preservation and expanded use of human resources.
For 4 ½ years before retirement in 2006, he worked in the field of Vision Impairment. As the Mid States Regional Resource Consultant for Nagel’s Visual Aid Systems, Ed traveled throughout eastern Kansas, western Missouri, southern Iowa, and Lincoln/Omaha Nebraska to bring hope and help to those with visual impairments. He provided adaptive technologies, counseling, and support for those with low vision, and those who work in the field as well. He has written training materials for Vision Resource Professionals, which have been approved for continuing education credit by the ACVREP.
