Tripp is a social person; it’s in his blood. He had a girlfriend in pre-school; her name was Jessica. When other fifth graders were worrying about perfecting their jumpshot, Tripp was racking his brain about which girl he would crush on next. And as he got older, those around him began to see Tripp as a nonjudgmental, open-minded person in whom they could confide. “I have a more rational, logical view on most situations,” says the native Chicagoan, who now calls Los Angeles home.
What started as a passion for social engagement has quickly evolved into a full-fledged career. After moving to Los Angeles in 2007, Tripp didn’t know many people so he went out… a lot. Most weeks Tripp was out three to five nights. And he was observing and approaching. Most importantly, while sober. He wanted to perfect the art of engaging others in any social situation.
Tripp and his friend Kyle also found themselves constantly swapping advice about relationships. So, in the summer of 2010, together they launched a podcast entitled “Dudes Talking About Chicks”; it soon become a viral hit. “We ended up helping a lot of people,” Tripp says of the weekly show, which touched on everything from relationships to sex, as well as helping both men and women understand each other’s thought process.
Based on the success of the podcast, Tripp felt it only right to start helping his now-passionate listeners on a more personal level. Cue the launch ofTrippAdvice, a social service by which Tripp is now able to help his clients overcome, among many other things, issues of social interaction and confidence-building.
Tripp sees women’s lack of feedback as the biggest detriment to most men’s attempts to understand the opposite sex. “Women never tell men what they actually want,” he explains. “Most of the times they can’t even articulate it themselves.”
Of course, Tripp is aware that there are fears and hesitations involved when confronting such sensitive issues. But, what he also understands is that when there is a legitimate problem at hand, a solution shall never be limited. “You have to put your judgements and biases aside,” he says. “If there’s a problem that needs to be solved, you can always find a solution.”
Even after just one session, Tripp is confident a client will walk away with a better understanding of proper social skills, increased confidence, and the roadmap to eliminating any social anxiety. “You can take courses on human anatomy,” Tripp concedes, “but there’s no courses on how to approach women.” That’s where he comes in.
