Leonie Mcilvenny been an educator for 27 years. Initially a primary school teacher, then Teacher Librarian, she taught in both primary and secondary schools in the public and private sector. During her career she has been a Curriculum Consultant, online course developer, Library Consultant and ICT Project Manager for the WA Education Department. Most recently she developed a Learning to Learn Program at a private boy's college and is currently lecturing in Learning Technologies at a Perth University. Her interest in supporting students to develop effective study and self-management skills evolved as a result of experience in supporting two sons in their high school journey as well as identifying key elements in the Learning to Learn Program that she felt should be an essential part of any study skills program. Her own journey in self-growth and personal development created the desire to provide an opportunity for students to develop essential life skills within the context of their academic journey to empower them to achieve not only academic success but to prepare them for the challenges they will confront in their adult lives. The websites Studyvibe and Countdown to Crunchtime and her academic success coaching consultancy are the result of this desire and aim to support students to break through the barriers that hold them back from achieving their academic and personal potential.
"Education should be about empowering the individual to identify their potential and provide the support structure to enable them to reach it".
'Attitude is everything'.
I teach students to take control of their learning and take responsibility for their actions. They have the choice of being a VICTOR or a VICTIM.
