J. Collins ("Doc") Meek, B.Ed., M.Ed., Ph.D
Learning Specialist
"Dr. Meek brings a unique blend of warmth, intelligence and humor to everything he does." - Calgary PROFILE Magazine
Dr. Meek is a learning specialist with extensive experience in most aspects of education: teaching, learning, administration, finance, and programming, pre-school through post-secondary.
He provides specific leadership in effective learning strategies for helping children and adults with learning challenges, whether at home, at school, at play, or at work. He favors rapid learning and results-based training. His wife, Jeannette, helps him with all of this because she loves him!
Dr. Meek has been teaching, speaking, conducting workshops and consulting with clients and agencies for more than thirty years. He has willingly shared his knowledge and expertise with many people of all ages and in a variety of cultures. He spent 26 months overseas teaching teachers how to be more effective in their classrooms and teaching administrators how to be more effective in helping teachers be effective.
He is an excellent editor, author and columnist, offering a diversified background in both the public and private sectors. He is committed to developing and implementing quality learning programs that enhance mental acuity, self-confidence, and problem-solving behaviors.
Dr. Meek knows that education is more than intellect. He likes the examples of broadly-based leadership that groups such as the 4-H Clubs and the school-based Junior Achievement Clubs have provided over the years: a combination of intellect in action, self confidence, self respect, self reliance, common sense, community service, and loyalty to something larger than self.
He can help you connect the vital "6-H's" of learning for success in life:
- Head: brain, mind, intellect, genius, logic, knowledge, creativity, etc.
- Heart: intuition, feelings, emotions, fairness, caring, interest, enthusiasm, etc.
- Hands: skills, knowledge in action, craftsmanship, professionalism, etc.
- Health: physical fitness, nutrition, alertness to clean air/water/food, etc.
- Hope: commitment, "knowing that you know," following your "true self," etc.
- Happiness: energy and uplift in life and learning, and perhaps even personal joy.
