Bio:
Dr Markham began teaching Compassionate Communication techniques
in 1982 after finishing her Masters Degree. She went on to get her MFT
counseling license in 1986, and her Doctorate in Psychology in 1990. She
continued to train in different psychological methods including Transpersonal
psychology, Hakomi Therapy (Body Centered and Mindfulness based),
and she is certified as an Enneagram teacher.
She has taught
and consulted for many community groups and organizations such as
various churches, Santa Clara University, The Institute of Transpersonal
Psychology, San Jose Sate University, Intuit Corporation and Veterans Centers.
She was raised in the
bush of Africa and witnessed the beginning of two wars. She was the only
white student in an all black high school in an Apartheid country. She came to
the US for college during the tumultuous times of the Viet Nam War. These
experiences caused her to seek ways to understand how we can be at peace, both
with each other, and within ourselves.
She began her spiritual
studies while in high school, looking deeply into her parent’s Christian religion. In college she discovered other world religions, such as
Buddhism, Hinduism, Sufism, and Native American spirituality. Later she went
back to look at her African spiritual roots. She began a meditation practice,
and eventually found a teacher. She has not chosen one religious school, but
believes all spiritual paths lead to the same experience of Love for All based
on our Oneness with God.
Dr Markham draws her
wisdom from her cross-cultural life in Africa, psychotherapy
training, her spirituality practice, 30 years of experience
working with people, and her varied and diverse life experience. She makes her
home in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, in the Santa Cruz mountains.
