Dr. Charis Theocharous
Doctor of Chinese Medicine
(Acupuncturist and Herbalist)
Charis Theocharous was born and raised up in Limassol, a coastal city located in the southern part of the beautiful island of Cyprus.
In 1983, he was granted a scholarship, which enabled him to study in China: first for two years at the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), and then for five years at the Department of Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and Therapeutic Massage of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.
Immediately after his graduation in 1990, he was granted a second scholarship, which enabled him to follow a three-year postgraduate program at the Dong Zhi Men Hospital (the First University Hospital of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine), where he did further practice and research and he was finally granted the title of Master of Clinical Medicine.
As part of his education he studied directly, on a one-to-one basis, under two distinguished Masters of Chinese Medicine, professor Chen Zifu and professor Zhang Guorui, and absorbed a great part of their clinical and teaching experience. Both of them guided him to carry out his clinical work and taught him the way of integrating theory and practice. Upon his graduation, in 1993, he was already an experienced clinician, being able to carry out correct diagnoses and successfully treat a wide variety of ailments.
In 1993, Dr. Theocharous returned to Cyprus and since then he has been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine, integrating Chinese Herbal Medicine with Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Chinese Therapeutic Massage (Tui-Na). He maintains private practices in both Limassol and Nicosia, and he is available to consult on a wide range of conditions and diseases.
In 2001, the Cyprus Council for the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications accredited the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and recognized his academic titles of Bachelor of Medicine (Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Chinese Therapeutic Massage) and Master of Clinical Medicine. Since then, he is active in the battle for the legal recognition of the specialty of Acupuncture in Cyprus.
He is being admitted as an individual member of the Pan-European Federation of Traditional Chinese Medicine Societies (PEFOTS) and as an Overseas Member of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine (UK).
Live Better and Get More from Life with Acupuncture, Herbs and Massage.
At the Chinese Medical Centre of Cyprus, we emphasize the wholeness of body, mind, and spirit, and the unity of the individual with the natural environment. We believe that health is a manifestation of balance, both within the body itself and between the body and the external environment. When the body is internally balanced and in harmony with the external environment, energy flows smoothly throughout to nourish all organs and tissues, and the person is healthy and full of life. In our practice, rather than just focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of specific diseases, we focus on the patient, identifying patterns of disharmony and imbalance that may ultimately lead to disease. In treatment, we use acupuncture, herbs, and massage in a comprehensive, synergistic program that activates the body's natural healing abilities and stimulates vitality and immunity.
