Life is too short to write in third person, and bios can be so cold and lifeless.
Who am I? Why am I here? What am I going to do about?
It's interesting how these three little questions have come up constantly in my life, slightly different forms--but they have been ever present. First from my grandfather, a minister of more than 50 years, presented the questions to me several times in my youth. They appeared again from a man who taught the business and ethics class for the Amma Program I was in. I carried these questions over into the ethics class I developed and taught and into my clientele. Later, they popped up again from my current mentor. They are essential questions.
In a nutshell--My goal is to inspire and teach healthier living through Amma therapy, Chinese medicine and holistic nutrition--and I am here to create.
I believe in humanity's infinite potential. We have ability to do the greatest good for all life on this planet and and beyond. I know love and hope to be universal truths. It was imperative for me to find a line of work that embodied my core beliefs--I know I have found that in Holistic health, nutrition and Chinese medicine. And I love my work! It’s not something that everyone can say--I am glad I can.
Growing up on my paternal grandparent's farm instilled the love of growing, reaping food and living with the season deep within me. Gratitude, life skills, honesty and the 'color of our soul' were far more important to my grandparents than whether my clothes were the latest fashion. Sure, I may have resented from time to time having to weed and hoe endless rows of green beans--but there were fresh berries, apricots, pumpkins and flowers blooming everywhere. There was more be amazed with and grateful for--and wouldn't change any of it now. The knowledge and skill I gleaned as child are the foundation of my career.
Amma Therapy, martial arts and Chinese medicine were the next step. A highly refined system of whole living and preventative medicine. Perfect--and not static, ever evolving, ever deep levels of knowledge that can benefit every aspect of life if you let it. I began my studies in Amma in 1993. From 1995-2011, I worked at The Wellspring School for Healing Arts serving in many capacities including administrative, advertising and as the Boise Lead Amma Therapy Instructor. Teaching is one of my true passions. With each new group or class there are new faces, new challenges, new ideas and deeper levels of knowledge to be gained. It is amazing to see students not merely learn techniques, but more importantly embrace a holistic lifestyle and evolve their own lives.
My full-time Amma Therapy and Holistic Nutrition practices is maintained at Pulse Holistic Health with other like-minded therapists. I enjoy working with a varied clientele from infants to elderly; from healthy, maintenance minded clients to those with debilitating diseases. I never cease to be amazed at what Amma Therapy and Holistic Nutrition can treat–literally everything. Having other practitioners to work with on a daily basis means that we can provide more for our clients, support each other with our own unique skills, and maintain healthy practices on all levels. Apart from my work at Pulse I offer community workshops for bodyworkers and the public.
Recognizing that self-improvement is fundamental to being able to serve others as a healthcare provider, continuing education is important to me. I believe that Chinese Medicine and holistic healthcare are excellent avenues for wellbeing and the evolution of consciousness on the planet. I also believe that life changes and present opportunities–I look forward to exploring them.

For more than 18 years I have been a practitioner and educator of Chinese medicine, Amma Therapy and Holistic Nutrition.
Since, I no longer teach for the Wellspring School, I have more time to engage with the work I am still so passionate about--teaching and treating with Amma, Holistic Nutrition and Chinese Medicine. Check out my blog and website at http://aprilcrowell.com/
Yes, I am still at Pulse Holistic Health, where I maintain my private therapy practice. It is a pleasure to work with other practitioners who share my ideals and perspectives about holistic health--makes for great support for both the practitioners and our clients.
My plans for this site are for it to evolve. The recipes you will find up right now are seasonally appropriate. As I see my sorrel and spring greens poking up, I will shift the recipes. This spring I will also begin offering a series of classes on simple ways to shift harmoniously with the seasons--and more is yet to come. It's a work in progress and I'd love to hear from you.
Here's to your health and moving forward!
