I'm a Kenyan safaris operator with 13 yrs experience and I'm based in Nyeri, in Central Kenya. My company is Ontdek Kenya. Ontdek means "discover" in Dutch. And why a Dutch name ? I bring over some family connection with the Dutch which made the Belgium & Netherlands our firts market and the name has stuck.
My specialty is walking safaris and bird watching tours - these two are my personal hobbies so my work & my life mix so well and I enjoy it.
Game viewing is also very important to me but I go for the responsible approach to wildlife viewing rather than seeing the most game in disregard of nature. All my wildlife safaris have some walks scheduled in so that clients are not cooped up in the safari bus throughout their travel.
My tours are either small group departures or private safaris - which are listed on Ontdek Kenya's website.
I'm very much attracted to walking safaris in small national parks & private game conservancies which are not visited by mass tourism but they have a lot of easy to see plains game such as giraffes, elands, zebras, gazelles and excellent bird life.
Besides the mixed groups tours, I offer women-only tours specifically designed for adventure (active) women travelers who want an alternative style of travel to Kenya other than the vehicle confined package tours.
I also have 5yrs teaching experience of 14-18yrs old - my subjects agriculture and sciences. This is the basis on which I organize nature themed educational tours for students.
Last but not least I'm a mother of 2 children, under 12yrs who are often on safari with me and this gives me a better appreciation and understanding of what to consider in designing family safaris in Kenya.
