Every winter you ask yourself the same question: „How do I protect my skin from the cold?“. And yet, every winter you end up having dry, damaged and even sore skin. The main reason behind this is that you’re probably using the wrong products or you have an inadequate skin-care routine. Here’s a couple of tips that will help you be the true Ice queen of your city or town.
1. Preventing dry skin
With the winter season approaching us at full speed, dangers of the cold air outside and overheated air inside can be a real menace for your skin. Exposing it to the cool and windy weather can leave your skin dry and flaky, whereas an overheated air can damage your skin’s natural oils. Therefore, you need a proper skin-care routine to prevent such a disaster from happening.
If you naturally have dry skin type, it’s more prone to being rough-textured, which means that the dead- skin cells build-up easily. To avoid that, it’s really important to exfoliate regularly. If you want to renew and strengthen your skin naturally, introduce vitamin C to your diet. It’s an amazing anti-oxidant that can be consumed through food that is high in vitamin C such as lemon or broccoli.
2. Dealing with redness
The rosy flush on your cheeks can be a fashion trend if it’s intentional, but winter brings us more than that. Cold air can cause redness all over your face including chin, forehead, and nose, and we all know how annoying it can get.
It is known that you cannot really prevent redness on your face during winter, but the best you can do to mitigate it, is washing your face with lukewarm water and moisturising your skin. You should avoid washing your face with hot water as it eliminates natural oils from your skin leaving it dry and unmoisturised. Consider limiting the time you spend outdoors, but if you do need to leave the house frequently, don’t forget to wear a hat and tie a scarf in a trendy way.
3. Kiss your chapped lips goodbye
Having chapped lips is one of the worst feelings during wintertime. It can be agonising and difficult to deal with. The skin on your lips is very sensitive and thin, so exposing it to the cold air and wind can be damaging and can leave your lips cracked and dry. If you don’t take care of your lips properly, dry lip skin can get chapped and painful.
To protect and repair the skin on your lips, consume food rich in vitamin A and vitamin E. As the skin on your lips is damaged, avoid drinking hot beverages and eating spicy food. Also, don’t pick at the peeling skin on your lips, let them shed on their own. Once the process of shedding is over, to heal chapped lips, it’s essential to exfoliate them to get rid of the dead skin cells and stimulate lip skin renewal.
4. Cool winter makeup
As the cold days approach, having a makeup look to match your wardrobe is a way to go. Don’t be afraid to try a new look.
This winter season organic makeup is IN! Switch up some of your old makeup products with the new, vegan, ones. Organic products are natural and keep your skin healthy and moisturised. On top of that, you can look fabulous and be eco-friendly at the same time. But be careful with where you buy it from, because only professionals, such as Zuii Organic, carry high-quality vegan products.
5. Hat hair, don’t care... or do I?
Humid air and windy weather can leave your hair looking like a bird’s nest, all frizzy and dull. Mixing it with an overheated air inside, your hair can get extra fragile and brittle. No matter the hair type, winter weather can affect your hair-style and make it unrecognisable.
Since wearing no hat for most of us is not an option, make sure you put your hat on extra carefully. If your hair is straight, brush it out so it’s neatly laying underneath your hat. On the other hand, if you have naturally curly hair, it’s better to embrace your curls during this humid weather than trying to defy it.
As you can see, winter weather can be dreadful for your skin and hair, and we all know how important it is to properly care for them. But the good thing is that there’s always a solution. By following these tips, you truly will be the Winter queen of your area, and your skin and hair will leave everyone in awe.
