I have been asked by many people about those with a “gift” charging for their services and I would like to take a moment to discuss my views on that.
There is this notion within the paranormal and spirituality community that those with an ability; healing, intuitive, mediumship, etc. should do it FREE of charge. The large argument in support of this notion is that it’s a “god-given gift” that shouldn’t be capitalized on for monetary gain.
Sit back for a moment, can you think of other professions that have a “gift” or an “ability” that get paid without question?
That’s right! Lawyers (Arguing), Doctors (steady hands and brains), Singers (a voice that can carry a note), Authors (a literary voice), Athletes (endurance) and many more — but, just like being Intuitive or a Medium it’s an ability that was worked at and honed. Frankly, it’s an ability that is constantly being tweaked and honed to be better.
Yet, it seems, that only in the field of what’s classified as “new age” or “metaphysical” do people really handle the objection of, “Your gift is from God so you shouldn’t charge.”
As I delved deeper into why people believed such things I found an answer! Here it is; People believe that people that are either psychic, healers, mediums, etc. are somehow closer to God due to their connection to source / spirit. Therefore, they believe that their “god-like” abilities should be given away freely.
First, I am in no way closer to God or Source than you are — nor is anyone else for that matter. Secondly, being a psychic, healer, or medium is not a “god-like” ability — it’s simply an ability that has been honed. Take a lawyer, for example, as a child he/she might have been a naturally born arguer and then decided to hone that ability and make it a career so they went to law school. Upon graduation the lawyer still has works on perfecting his/her craft.
Being a psychic medium may be a natural ability at birth or it may not be. In my case it is something that I was born with, that I honed through practice, and so forth. In the beginning, like anything it was work learning about the ability and how it worked for me — every psychic is different.
It’s like a natural born singer takes voice classes or practices on their own — constantly perfecting, learning, and transforming their voice. The same is true with any ability or skill.
So now, you have someone with a natural ability that they continue to perfect and now they want to do it full time as a career. What does this mean? Well, it means the same as any other job or profession they need to be able to make a living and afford a lifestyle. This is where things start getting tricky because most people don’t think or even consider the overhead of running a business on top of providing a living for ones-self.
Well, first, you all know the things that are involved in making a living; RENT, PHONE, CAR PAYMENT, CAR INSURANCE, and so on and so forth. A business, has similar things but now you may need; a lawyer, health insurance, an accountant, etc.
One cannot afford the basics if they aren’t charging something. So, just to afford to live, they need to charge some fee.
Things that affect the rate vary from; experience, being in demand, lifestyle costs, business costs, and then having to create a value on the service you are offering. It’s a lot to consider in the scheme of things because you want to be fair and reasonable both for your client and for yourself.
The average charge for a Psychic Medium is $200 – $500 for the hour and these rates range from well know to not so well known.
It raises the question, “What are you paying for?”
Think about your most valuable possession — what make it so? Odds are it’s either because you spent a fair amount on it or it’s emotional value is priceless as in the case of a family heirloom.
So, now, let’s look at what a Psychic Medium offers;
1. A chance for closure
2. Validations that your loved ones are still around
3. An opportunity for forgiveness
4. Tying up loose ends
5. Guidance
6. A chance to hear from a loved one in spirit one more time
7. Emotional Healing
8. And more — depending on the client.
Now, some people are going to find these benefits the equivalent of a family heirloom as priceless. These are the clients that see the value in the service being provided and are willing to pay any amount to have such a wonderfully healing experience.
For those that don’t see the value — they are the clients that will go to a less expensive reader. That’s one of the benefits of this field is that the price ranges are all over the board — so, if you cannot afford a particular psychic you have two options;
1. SAVE because you see the value
2. Choose someone within your budget because you want an experience
Why would someone choose to pay a higher priced psychic medium? Two main reasons;
1. When you pay more you listen more
2. Fee may Equal Caliber and Experience
I believe that as a potential client you should research the psychic — read through testimonials and see if you make a connection with the energy of the website or store. Look at their experience and see if it validates why they may be on the higher end of the spectrum. I also encourage people to sign up for newsletters and see if you click with the message they are sending out — energetically are you are match with the potential psychic. Sometimes, it’s an instant click and then it’s just a matter of going for it
In the end, you need to be comfortable with the Psychic YOU choose and if price is a factor see if you can arrange a payment plan or if they run special rates / packages. All this should help you in selecting the right psychic for you.
