It never ceases to amaze me how many people hold wildly inaccurate ideas and beliefs about spiritual gifts and the people who openly use them.

Let’s start by having a basic understanding of the most common ones in order to release unnecessary fears of the unknown:

• Automatic Writing – To have the ability to write without conscious thought.
• Bilocation – The ability to be in two places at the same time.
• Clairvoyance – The ability to perceive information outside the normal human senses.
• Clairaudience- The ability of psychically hear information from angels, guides, or the deceased.
• Clairsentience – the ability to sense psychic information through feelings and the environment.
• Clairgustance – The ability to receive psychic information through smells.
• Claircognizance – The ability of having clear knowing without any normal human senses or knowledge.
• Communicating with Animals – Having the ability to communicate with animals.
• Mediumship – Communicating with a person who is deceased.
Death Warning – Having a visions or dreams of a living person right before they actually die.
• Dowsing – To have the ability to locate objects.
• Dream Influencing – The ability to change another person’s dream.
• Empathic – The ability to feel what other’s are feeling.
Faith Healing – The ability influence another person’s disease process.
• Out of Body Experience and Astral Projection – Literally having an experience of being disembodied.
• Past Life Viewing – Having visions of previous lives before the current incarnation.
• Premonition / Second Sight – Perceiving future events before they actually happen.
• Psychokinesis or Telekinesis – The ability to manipulate matter, space, time or energy.
• Psychometry – The ability to obtain information about a person or object though an object.
• Remote Influencing – To influence another person remotely.
• Remote Viewing – To gather information about people or places remotely.
• Retrocognition – Perception of past events.
• Scrying – To use an item to view events at a distance or in the future.
• Telepathy / Sixth Sense – To transfer thought or emotions – To know another person’s thoughts.
• Transvection – Bodily levitation or flying.

Keep in mind that these are just the most common but there are still far more.

While these are basic descriptions, know that no two people will experience the same gift the same way. It is as unique as a fingerprint. Some people spend a lifetime learning to decipher the images, smells, sounds, etc.. of their gifts while very few of us actually have the natural ease and ability that you typically see portrayed on television shows. This rarity becomes the unfair marker at which all others are judged against.

While most people grow up with relative ease learning to trust their senses to orient themselves within the world, that same task takes on a monumental achievement for a naturally born gifted person. You can grow up very unsure of yourself, not knowing where the information came from and questioning your sanity, which is why so many of us are solitary beings. It only takes a few times of innocently voicing your knowledge that you learn the interrogation, ridicule, and harassment aren’t worth the effort. It becomes apparent that it’s far better to remain silent and safe. Imagine how you would feel growing up knowing things before they happened or having feelings all the time and never being able to share them with anyone.
This is the reason so few of us openly use our gifts, which is tragic indeed.

I recently had someone ask me if I liked having all the gifts I do. I must admit that took me back. I had never been asked this before, nor had I ever thought about it. After a few moments of contemplation I realized that only did I like it, but I couldn’t possibly imagine living without them. My gifts are as much a part of who I am as my heart and soul are.

I believe that each and every one of us has at least one of these gifts to one degree or another, it’s just that some of us have it stronger than others while most people just dismiss their gifts as coincidence. After all, how many times have you had a feeling about something not to listen, and then be regretful for it after?

It basically comes down to the fact that spiritually gifted people have an expanded awareness of situations, places, and people which enables them to use that insight to navigate through life differently than the average person.
We look like “normal” people, have good days and bad, get mad and angry, make mistakes, have to learn the hard way, and love, laugh, and live just like “normal people.”
