We have all heard that phrase, “the truth will set you free.’ On the one hand, truth can provide us with new insight. For any woman in our Church, learning about a past religious women’s heritage was shocking, to say the least.
That truth as well was bitterly painful, when coming to the realization that you actually had been lied to by the hierarchy of your own Church. Yet, that same truth contained the grief of loss.
A literal family heritage of Women Priest’s, Women Deacons, and Women Bishops, being emulated from one family generation to another never happened. With that very loss, there was no tangible role model for the younger generation of our Church. What about the grief of loss for any Women Religious, or Woman Laity, not being able to answer their own call to serve God?
Why is it wrong for a Woman to Question her own lack of Equality in our Church?
Why is it, if any woman dares broach this very topic, they are looked upon as doing something wrong? We as the People of God have every right to inquire about the hierarchy’s actions in disavowing Jesus’ words on women’s equality with men in our Church. Just where is a remnant of Jesus’ Ministry Present? What we disturbingly find is lying versus giving us the plain truth of the matter, ignoring Jesus’ own words and replacing them with the hierarchy’s own wording. Just how is the Church, emulating Jesus’Ministry of Truth, Inclusion, love, to any Catholic Woman, in the Catholic Church, wanting to answer her own call from God, to serve Him, in the year 2020?
Thinking back to that past women’s history in our Church, keying in on that previous actuality of women being allowed to be priests, what did that really mean for those women? It certainly meant that they were not held back from answering God’s call to
Service. Their individual faith life, their own spirituality was taken to another level in their actual ministry work to others.
With Jesus, there is no Equality Issue to Women, He already gave them that
Jesus has already given women their full equality with men in our Church. The Radical Truth involves too many members of our current hierarchy continuing to dismiss Jesus’ words on the equality of women in our Church. The truth for the Laity is their own disbelief in how this hierarchy can’t even see women’s equality in our Church, as even an issue today. What exactly is so threatening about allowing women, to carry out their own God-given right to Priesthood in our Church? Or could it be as simple as them not wanting the actual truth to finally be seen by all Catholics Worldwide?
Margaret Mary O’Connor has made it her mission to reveal the truth of Your Catholic Church.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University At Buffalo (NY), and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry from Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, NY. She is a former Chaplain and is currently a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Charity Parish where, ironically, the Church windows depict the Vatican II Council. One window represents the “Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World,” which includes an article that speaks directly to ending sexual discrimination of all kinds in our Church.
