We are already two weeks into the new year and most peoples’ new year’s resolutions are history. It’s a common and interesting phenomena.
Goals often don't last - sometimes we don't even get started on them or fall back into old habits creating the same old results.
I know your year can be different and amazing...keep on reading!
What's Missing?
Why don’t our goals and well-meant plans last and bring results?
As Steve Job said in an interview, "...you have to have a lot of passion for what you're doing, and it's totally true and the reason is, because its so hard, that if you don't, any rational person would give up. It's really hard and you have to do it over a sustained period of time. So if you don't love it, if you're not having fun doing it, if you don't really love it, you're going to give up. And that's what happens to most people, actually...If you don't love it, you're going to fail. So you gotta love it, you gotta have passion...”
"Passion is one great force that unleashes creativity, because if you're passionate about something, then you're more willing to take risks." ~ Yo-Yo Ma
You gotta have passion is the answer. Most of our goals are set because we think “we should do it.” For example, we think we should lose some weight, start a healthier lifestyle, accomplish more at work, get more customers and so on. Think about why you really want to do it. It’s the passion, the why, that keeps you moving forward with inspired actions toward your goals and lasting success.
Eye Opening Studies
Many people lack excitement and passion for what they are doing - both life and work become a daily challenge. As an employee or business owner, you might find the following studies thought-provoking:
- About 68% of employees are not engaged. They are unhappy, unsatisfied and unfulfilled. Of those, about 18% are actively disengaged, affecting company profits and customer relations.
- Actively disengaged employees report more "unhealthy" days - days, in which, health issues limited their activity. Actively disengaged employees have 2.17 unhealthy days, compared with 1.25 unhealthy days for engaged employees (Gallup study, 2014).
- It’s estimated that actively disengaged employees cost the U.S. $450 billion to $550 billion in lost productivity per year (Gallup study, 2013).
- Engaged employees produce nearly 1.5 more than average employees and inspired employees produce 2.25 times more (Harvard Business Review study, 2014).
- Only 29% of Business to Business (B2B) customers are fully engaged (Gallup study 2014).
