Stressed out from the current state of the economy? Reiki can de-stress you quickly and easily!

A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful, glowing radiance that flows through you and surrounds you. It is hard to maintain a stressful attitude when you feel so good and peaceful about yourself and everything that is going on in your life. You can engage your sense of gratitude during the session and come away with a sense of peace and purpose.

What is Reiki? Pronounced “rey-key,” many people believe that Reiki has to do with religion or woo-woo stuff. It can be defined as a type of energy bodywork that can be done to yourself or another person, animal, plant or really anything. It relies on an ancient belief of chi or ki being life force energy. Rei can be defined as universal or life. Reiki can be defined as helping to direct universal life energy.

A typical Reiki session lasts from 45 minutes to an hour or can sometimes be longer. The Reiki practitioner places their hands on or just above the body, both front and back. The client remains completely clothed, except their shoes are removed. The touch is quiet and passive, but some people experience a warmth or a tingling sensation. The practitioners’ hands remain in position for a period of time and then are moved to various locations in the body. These locations correspond to major energy centers and meridians that are contained within the physical and energetic body.

Many hospitals are recognizing the benefit that Reiki brings to their patients. They have discovered that it is a meaningful and cost effective way to significantly improve patient care. Dr. Mike Cantwell, a Reiki master and pediatrician specializing in infectious diseases states, “I have found Reiki to be useful in the treatment of acute illnesses such as musculoskeletal injury/pain, headache, acute infections and asthma. Reiki is also useful for patients with chronic illnesses, especially those associate with chronic pain.” This is just a small list of the conditions that Reiki can positively affect because its effects are multidimensional and can include emotional balancing, stress reduction, and spiritual uplifting.

To understand the benefits of Reiki in a different way, I recently tried a very brief experiment. A neurofeedback practitioner recently ran a brain map on a client. Then, a Reiki session was done for about 45 minutes. Another brain map was administered once the Reiki session was completed. The differences were amazing. A brain wave that was associated with pain experience was significantly reduced. The client said her pain was gone and this was supported by the follow up brain map.

So feel free to find a qualified Reiki practitioner and immerse yourself in a healing session that reduces stress and promotes a greater sense of well-being any time of the year, and especially during the holiday times or times of high stress. Or learn it for yourself by taking a Reiki Level 1 training and be able to practice it on your or your family members or even your pets anytime you want!
