If you want to eat healthier but have less time than ever to cook, you'll find these time saving, small kitchen tricks and tools to be just what you need to cook quick and healthy meals for you and your entire family. Healthy cooking doesn't have to be difficult when you have tricks of the trade to help get the job done fast.
SEA SALT
I must admit that I have a savory palate but salt does bring flavors alive and especially salt that is freshly ground! Try this great sea salt in handy grinder! What are the health benefits you ask? Table salt is highly refined so that removes the magnesium and trace minerals. Additionally, in order to keep the salt dried out, various additives are included in table salt, such as aluminum compounds. So stick with less processed alternatives such as sea salt.
TEA INFUSER
It may be cute but it also makes the best cup of tea – using loose leaf tea versus the powdered versions found in tea bags produces a far better quality cup of tea – more flavor and more health benefits to boot! And if you have dried herbs you want to infuse a soup with flavor but not the actual herb leaves, try using your infuser. Any tea infuser will do but this heart shaped infuser is too cute to resist.
GARLIC BAKER
Nothing beats roasted garlic and a baguette of grilled bread! Or how about garlic roasted mashed potatoes? You can easily whip up these delights in your own kitchen with a garlic baker. Garlic bakers can be used in your microwave or conventional oven (for best results). We all know the great health benefits of garlic so why not start using it more often in your own kitchen?
SALAD SPINNER
Besides the obvious everyday use of washing greens, a salad spinner is an innovative way to rinse fresh cranberries. It requires less cleanup and is a time-saver when having to wash and dry your herbs, lettuces and even cranberries!
HEAT-RESISTANT SPATULA
My favorite tool – used almost daily - good for stirring and for getting every last drop out of dish! These come in different shapes, in order to glide around curves, nooks, and crannies. Heat-resistant spatulas are especially helpful when stirring very hot dishes. Not a fan of plastic – try bamboo! Bamboo spatula‘s are eco-friendly since bamboo is a renewable resource.
Part of the fun of cooking is experimenting with new foods, new spices, and new cooking methods—add some new gadgets to the mix and you’re in for some fun in the kitchen…enjoy!
