Las Vegas is known as the City of Lights because of all the neon lights and signage that the Las Vegas Strip has. The City of Las Vegas can be seen for hundreds of miles away when travelling to or from Las Vegas and can also be seen from space. The famous Las Vegas Strip has millions of lights that are constantly illuminated to attract tourists from all over the world.

Las Vegas Sign Companies keep busy making and servicing these signs that contain millions of light bulbs and millions of led bulbs that are constantly flashing in sequence. One of the more interesting sites ( other than gambling and entertaining shows) is the Las Vegas Sign Museum located at Bonanza Road and Las Vegas Blvd. The signs are considered by locals and historical researchers to be significant because the signs tell a story about the history of Las Vegas. Each sign tells a unique story about the history of Las Vegas and about the growth of the city. Just down the street is the Mob museum, where former attorney and mayor of Las Vegas, Oscar Goodman, help founded the historical Mob museum where the history of the underworld connections to Las Vegas can be learned. The combination of the sign museum and mob museum helps visitors learn about the unique history and culture of the City of Las Vegas.

The famous Las Vegas Welcome Sign is also a major tourist attraction in Las Vegas. Thousands of tourists have their picture taken against the sign so that they can show their friends back home where they have been. Located at 5200 S. Las Vegas Blvd., this sign was originally placed in 1959 and designed by Betty Willis. In 2007, the sign was upgraded so that people had an opportunity to have their pictures taken against the sign. Until then, tourists use to park illegally and run across traffic to have the opportunity to have their pictures taken against the famous landmark. Many people were injured and killed trying to obtain their picture with the Las Vegas welcome sign in the background and finally in 2007, the city decided to make the famous sign tourist friendly.

Las Vegas is rich in history compared against other cities. With the colorful underworld mob beginnings, Las Vegas has grown into a respectable city where people come to raise their families. Millions of people fly into Las Vegas every year for the conventions and trade shows ( Las Vegas is a major destination for trade shows and conventions and boasts millions of square feet of floor space to hold the biggest of shows). The biggest of the convention centers are the:

1. Sands Expo
2. Mandalay Bay Convention Center
3. Las Vegas Convention Center.

When coming to Las Vegas, have a great time and enjoy the gambling, top entertainment, luxurious pools and other amenities, but try to save some time to learn about the history of Las Vegas. In addition to the above, Lake Mead is close by for boating and fishing and Mt. Charleston is only a short distance for winter skiing.
