The present moment is here. It's what is. You may like it or you may hate it, but it is reality right now.

There's nothing you can do this moment to change it, things are exactly the way they are. Which is not to say your response can't change things in the next second, or day, or next year.

How do you Respond?
Right now, you have two choices. No matter which you choose, it won't change the situation, although it can change your life. You can judge it as negative, which also stops you enjoying it. How can you enjoy anything when you're being negative?

Or you can be positive. See the situation exactly as it is, and judge that it's good. Being positive implies you accept what has happened, because it has happened, it is reality.

Change your Context
Yet there is a third option. You can stop your self-sabotage and change your opinion. This instantly changes your experience and you see this moment in a new light. The change in inner perspective makes it a fresh, new experience. Then life becomes more exciting.

Being positive is not a "should." It's how to change your life. If you want a more exciting life, change your context to see the current moment as positive. See all of life as positive.

Yes, I hear you say, but what if the current moment is not positive, what if it's a total disaster? So let's explore that.

Find the Benefits in the Situation
Although you don't see the circumstances as positive in any way, you can still come up with benefits. Even if you find this challenging, you need to write it down at least one benefit. Then write another. Then some more. Add at least one to this list daily until you can see its very real benefits. Keep adding until you find some peace. The effort you invest in searching for and finding benefits will improve your view of the situation. Which means you'll dislike it less, and see it as more beneficial!

But if you battle to see anything good at all, do this. Say to yourself, preferably audibly: I know I can't see this as beneficial right now, but if I could see it as beneficial, how would it be so? Then stop thinking and allow your inner voice to give you the answer.

Although your self-sabotage mechanism may attempt to stop you seeing any benefits, there are always benefits in every situation. That's because things are just what they are. You add the judgment which decides if it's good or bad. This is why other people see and respond to things so differently. Which all suggests how to change your life: stop judging!
