Divorce often plays havoc with our emotions. Even when you think you've got it all pulled together, sometimes unwanted feelings can take over your psyche. Two steps forward, one step back... or on a paritcularly bad day, even three steps back.
In time, you can observe these feelings as they come and go and begin to detect their hidden or overt meanings. As you process your feelings in divorce nothing seems to make sense. Some days you are not even sure how you feel. The goal is to find out how to get over your break up. The goal is to find a way to cope with divorce.
Feelings After Divorce
Feelings act as signals, as windows into ourselves. You can use these feelings as a message - what exactly are they trying to tell you? And what can you do with these feelings? Which ones are negative? Which ones are healing? So how can you begin to retain the healing feelings? How long would you like to keep that feeling?
Is that feeling serving you or not? Sometimes you tend to hang on to your feelings as your comfortable constant companions. And other times you can decide that you no longer need those feelings and you move on to the next feeling. It is a process that is unique for each one of us.
Write it Down
Many women find it to be helpful to write down their feelings. The physical act of writing and the mental act of clearing releases negative energy. It lets you express what you are truly going through. No sugar coating. No masking the pain, just your feelings. You will find that as you write down your feelings it becomes slightly easier to share them with others - the edge starts to come off. The feelings are more refined.
As you deal with the downstream effects of your divorce, seek out those who will listen to you, find friends who agree to listen, find a coach, find support in some way. Your feelings will come and go and you can observe them and guide them out of your life when the times comes.
