Helichrysum Essential Oil is derived from the flowers, of the Helichrysum italicum from the Asteraceae family. This species of Helichrysum is also known as angustifolium.
There are several hundred species of Helichrysum. The Helichrysum italicum is the most common species used in Essential Oil production.

As with many Essential Oils, Helichrysum Oil has an historical presence. It is believed the Helichrysum flowers were used as far back as medieval times of Europe.
The Extraction process
The fresh or dried flowers of the helichrysum plants are steam distilled to extract this much sort after Essential Oil. The Essential Oil is Yellowish in colour and has a sweet and spicy flavour.

- Muscle aches, Pains and strains - Helichrysum Essential Oil provides significant relief from the symptoms associated with muscle aches and strains. Adding Helichrysum Essential Oil to your bath will provide much-needed relief. Use in a quality Organic carrier oil for deep massaging into sore muscles and joints.
- Helichrysum Essential Oil may relieve Upper respiratory complaints. It may provide relief from colds, flu, asthma, coughs and bronchitis.
- When mixed with a cream or lotion, Helichrysum Essential Oil may provide relief from Scalds, eczema, shingles and bruises. It may also provide relief from dry aging skin due to its apparent ability to stimulate the creation of new cells.
- Some research indicates helichrysum oil may act as anti-coagulant preventing blood clots from forming.
Helichrysum Essential Oil is excellent blended with other oils. Bergamot and Chamomile are 2 oils it blends well with and can treat similar complaints. This was one of the first Essential Oils I researched when I was studying Natural Therapies. It’s not on the top of the list in popularity when it comes to Essential Oils but it is very close. Its uses and benefits should not be underestimated.

Essential oils have many benefits and can aid in the prevention or healing of many complaints. Every individual is different. Some essential oils can be toxic. Some oils must never be ingested while others require limited exposure to the sun due to phototoxicity.
