Summary: 92% of Congress identify as Christians (Google). What a mess! Christian means like Christ, and Christ didn't run for office. The political or governmental system is broken, the correctional system, education, healthcare, and the religious systems of society are beyond repair. America has sewn the wind and will soon reap the whirlwind.
“I respect Franklin Graham, Mike Huckabee and Ben Carson. They are all good men and I'm confident any of them would do a far better job than what we have in the White House, but that's not saying much.”
“The government under which Jesus lived was corrupt and oppressive; on every hand were crying abuses,--extortion, intolerance, and grinding cruelty. Yet the Savior attempted no civil reforms. He attacked no national abuses, nor condemned the national enemies. He did not interfere with the authority or administration of those in power. He who was our example kept aloof from earthly governments. Not because He was indifferent to the woes of men, but because the remedy did not lie in merely human and external measures. To be efficient, the cure must reach men individually, and must regenerate the heart.” The Desire of Ages, EG White, p 509.
America has done well with leadership of highly moral and religious people whose motive was to do right without reference to a church. The idea of not favoring a religious agenda should help us beware of papal plans for Sunday as a day of “family values.”
From the days of Roe v Wade, morality has taken a back seat to the primary process that people are born with--”I want what I want when I want it.” A Christian should oppose abortion, so why do we still have it with 92% of Congress professing to be Christians and a majority of Supreme Court Justices as Catholic? The facts suggest the fallacy of shallow religion that goes along to get along.
Another example is the $1.1 Trillion Omnibus Bill that Congress just passed, funding Muslim refugees coming to America, Planned Parenthood (exposed re use of fetal tissue), Obamacare and the pope's agenda for environmental issues. Congressional paralysis of analysis on what needs to be done is proverbial. We are already past the point of return in spite of good efforts by some fine people.
Trump seems to be using a Christian label for political purposes. Not being able to give a favorite Bible verse makes him suspect. His use of vulgar words is not what we would expect from a Christian, but he doesn't seem to care and finds it easy to justify himself. The Bible says, “Pride comes before a fall,” and we might wonder when it will be. His pursuit of wealth with casinos is also a red flag.
