Video games have improved effect on the learning process. Some researchers indicate that well designed games improve the “process of thinking” of some subjects such as mathematics, literacy and science.
This leads to some theories about the possibility of using games as partial substitution for real teachers.

VIDEO GAMES IN THE ROLE OF TEACHERS

Motivation

We all remember teachers who motivated us to take actions. The same goes for the video games. A well build game has an influence on increasing the motivation.

“Children are highly motivated in playing games” –is a well know saying in the pedagogy.

Analysis

Just like choosing subjects at school, they can choose the character they play with and then they analyze his weakness and advantages. In that way they practice their ability to analyze things and events.

Grading

The logic is simple – the better your score goes, the better you’re becoming, just like in school. It’s a challenge for every child to pass all the levels, up to the last one and to be rewarded for his play. Of course, the goal is to make the child satisfied for job well done.

Knowledge

Even though is not the main purpose of the games, they have an influence on the development of the cognitive skills by explaining actual examples. Ex: Cooking games can show the process of making the cake. It can be fun and useful at the same time. During the game children notice the products they need to make the cake. They can practice again and again until they are willing for that. It’s great for the parents too because while they are busy with making the launch, their children can do the same thing with the cooking game.

CASE STUDY

There was a recent research about the effects that the games have on the children’s development. Some of the effects are:

Attention: With the environment created in the game the player has to keep focused. Attention should be put on both- the strategy of playing and the action taken in the game.

Information: The game can place explicit warning labels with useful messages. Ex: How important is firefighting and safety for everyone, before they start to play the game.

Trust: The playing in team raises the question of having trust in others. Ex: When you pass the ball to your team co-player you are sure he will do the best he can, so that you both win.

Satisfaction: After the game is over, everyone can see the time they spent during the game, and the achieved results.

Because of the fact that games give you all basic lessons to learn about your favorite hobby, for a short time, the use of games rapidly grows.
People spend more and more time and money on every new generation of games. Some of them claim to notice positive effects of playing like faster thinking and better memory and others are skeptical on that.

After all, we all want to play games.
