Fishing is a favorite past time for many while it is a profession for some. There are many effective ways to lure fishes be it salt water or fresh water. Only experienced fishermen have idea about specific lures which work for each type.

While talking about lures, the topic of crankbaits automatically comes up. It can be used to attract shallow water fishes as well as those swimming in deep sea water. These tools come in different shapes and sizes for individual category of fishes.

When you are trying to catch fishes feeding near the surface, shallow running baits are most effective. These are designed to trap fishes within depths of two to five feet and are commonly known as Speed Trap. These work best in areas of weed and grass. Lipless baits are those which don’t have a bill on the front. These are just perfect when you are fishing in areas where there are weeds. Also known as Spots and Rat-L-Traps, these are designed to be thrown and retrieved quickly, giving little time to the fish to decide whether to strike or not. And, surprisingly, most of the time they do strike! They just see the lure and bite it.

The line is very crucial for these types of fishing expedition. It should be strong enough to handle the catch. While eight pound is considered the lightest, fifteen pound is considered most effective for lipless baits. Some lures may require stronger line depending on the species of fish you targeting. Usually salt water fishes are bigger in size and hence you may need large size crankbaits.

It is always advisable to maintain different sizes and colors of each type of bait which can be used depending on fishing requirement. Also, proper maintenance of these tools is equally important.
