I had to share this inspiring conversation I had with my business girlfriend, sister in success and mentor- L. Denise Jackson. We were pretty excited about upcoming events and projects we were working on and a topic close to my heart came up. Women who are freaking GENIUSES but don't implement what they know because they think they don't know enough. If you talk to one of these women you would think that she was the greatest gift to human kind, she could certainly find the remedy for somebody's issue. You're listening to her, pull your pen out of your purse and start to say, "Whatever you have to offer just sign me up today". But then she'll say something like, "But I can't do that yet, I need more coaching or I don't have enough experience, not enough education or credibility. I don't believe I'll be good at that". You quietly put your hopes and your pen back in your bag and leave the conversation thoroughly confused.
That conversation was close to my heart because that woman was me, and hundreds of other women that I've spoken with throughout the years. That woman is a woman in my family, a close friend or the woman who WOW'd me at the bus stop. That woman could be you.
When I started my career, I was on FIRE! You couldn't tell me ANYTHING. I did what I knew naturally and was pretty successful. Up to a few years ago, my pace got slower. Life began to expand, the hard knock challenges knocked me on my butt and I lost confidence and trust in myself. My overall self-esteem dropped. So I hung on to every word of loving coaches and mentors trying to reclaim something in myself. I bought product on top of product from the best of the best. More products than I could ever listen to. It became an addiction. What was supposed to be a boost became a crutch. Enough was never enough.
I traded in my intuition and natural gifts for information gathering and short term highs.
If you're struggling with how to jump start or excel in your business/career OR how to reclaim your genius and apply it to what you LOVE-here are a few powerful tips that put me in motion DURING the storms.
1. BE STILL- stop running from event to event; coach to coach if you are NOT implementing as you go. Pray, meditate, write, brainstorm-do something to tap into your innate wisdom and genius. Allow what you're learning from others add value to what God has given you-not replace it.
2. LEARN TO TRUST YOURSELF: somewhere on the journey we failed at something in some area of our life and lost trust in our ability to make a difference. Something in life scared the heck out of us and we lost trust in our ability to protect and provide for ourselves, so we stopped taking risks. We settled for the okey doke. It happens. This and every moment gives you the opportunity to rebuild trust in yourself and your ability to step out into LIFE and be grand with what you have to offer the world.
3. GET INTIMATE-take quality time to list your past experiences, skills, gifts, knowledge, trainings, certifications, education, interests and hobbies. Make note of what you know and how it can become a service or a product. Begin to brainstorm who your service or product would benefit.
4. TAKE THE CONTINUOUS RISKS: if you need a coach or mentor, that's cool. Just be sure to IMPLEMENT AS YOU GO. Whether you're doing the inner work or external work-use that support to GROW. Creating new habits is essential to your success. Everyday do something to stretch yourself. Make some MAGIC! Transform your list of "knowledge" into a list of "services or products you've created".
Take this with you today: You'll never know how much value you can add to the world, how much you've learned or how much you've grown if you don't get out and experience yourself in life. You are not your past, you are not your conditions. You don't need anyone to validate you. Everything you'll ever need to get started is already within you. Don't believe me? Good-go try it out for yourself.
