PROS AND CONS OF WORKING FROM HOME
In today’s world more and more people are choosing to work at home. New opportunities are arising where people can choose work at home jobs instead of commuting to work on a daily basis. Although these opportunities are great for some people, they are not for everyone. There are pros and cons to both sides of the work at home decision. We are going to take a look at a few of the major pros and cons for a general look at working at home.
Being your own boss and having independence are the two of the major advantages to working from home. You don’t have to physically report to a boss everyday like in the traditional work world. You have the independence to more or less set your own hours. If you have to go the doctor you don’t have to worry about asking your boss for permission. More freedom to do the things that you need to get done is a major plus for most people. You also save money on commuting to work everyday. With the rising cost of gas prices this is a definite advantage. And if you have a family or children you have more time to spend with them if you can manage your time productively. You can take your children to the park or do other enjoyable activities with them and be a much more involved parent. It is hard to find quality time with children when you work so many hours, so working at home is the perfect solution to spending more time with your family.
Although there are so many advantages of working from home, it is not for everyone. Many people who work from home feel isolated because of the lack of human contact. They may become lonely from not being able to interact with co-workers everyday. It is different for everyone. Some people prefer working alone, while others thrive on working with others. And many people who work from home cannot escape from work and they find themselves trying to work every hour that they possibly can and this can lead to great stress. Which is the meaning behind managing time productively that we referred to earlier. It is very easy to get sucked into the black hole of thinking you need to work all hours, or that your work is never quite done. When this happens that takes away from the whole concept of working to spend more time with your family. Additionally, if you become ill and aren’t able to work you may not have any money coming in at all. With work at home jobs, work is not always guaranteed as most work at home people are considered Independent Contractors. This means that there may be days where you don’t receive any work and therefore no income at all because you are mainly employed per contract.
Before taking on the challenge of working from home one should consider all of the options and see if the choice is best for them. It can be an amazing opportunity but it is not for everyone. Like with anything important in life, research is an important factor. Take the time to know the facts. The more informed you are the better. This article just touches on some major components to working at home, not all of the issues and not totally in depth. This should help you to take the first step into learning more about working at home and really think about what is involved. Hopefully having a good first step will lead to many more.
