Anyone who sells for a living can tell you that it is not always an easy life, and a typical work day can be filled with ups and downs. There are always things that need to be done, including the annoying paperwork that always seems to be getting in the way of getting out there and actually getting more customers and making more sales and profits. For many entrepreneurs, all of this work falls strictly on them, and they can find themselves becoming pretty frazzled at times. But, at the same time, being a business owner can also be one of the most rewarding things in the world, especially when you actually make a sale. What you need to do is find a way to make each call worthwhile, even if you do not make a sale every time. Here are five great tips to help you find success in every call:

Be stubborn without seeming desperate: It is important that if you don't succeed the first time to keep on trying, but it is just as important to make sure that you don't seem desperate doing it. This is a skill that may take some time to learn, but it is well worth it to work on it. After all, just because somebody does not need what you are selling today does not mean that they are not going to need it a month or so from now. Do not call on them every day, but do try to make contact at least once a month. Also, try to make sure that you have plenty of sales calls to make. The more you try, the better your chances are of success.

Provide great customer service they will remember: You need to work to get customers, and you need to work even harder to retain those customers. Give them something different and exciting in your sales presentation that no one else is doing, and people will see that you are more than just a product or service. Don't just sell them your products or services. Be prepared to back up your sales with excellent follow-up service. Come up with unique selling propositions, including things that are really going to be of use to your customers. Give them the value they are looking for, and be there for them when they need you to earn their trust and have customers for life.

Sometimes you will have to refuse customer requests: Although this is something that probably goes against every grain of your being as a business owner, you can’t always please everyone, and sometimes, you just have to say no to people. For example, if a customer wants you to do something for them that you consider unethical, you should refuse. Yes, you may lose that customer, but once word gets out that you have extremely high standards and wonderful ethics, you can be sure that others are going to be interested in learning more about you and your business.

Show some passion in your sales pitch: If you are not passionate about what you are selling, customers are going to see right through your sales pitch, and they will probably not be overly interested in doing business with you. If you do not believe in what you are selling, how can you expect anyone else to believe in it? When you show a passion for what you are doing, it is going to be contagious, and it will pass on to your customers in a positive way.

Give them plenty of value for their money: In this tough economy, people are always looking for the most value for their money. If you offer customers more than what they are actually paying for, they are truly going to appreciate this gesture, and it will give them incentive to do business with you in the future. Don't worry about losing money by doing this, because it is actually going to generate all kinds of profits for your business. Provide more than enough value to your customers and you will really start to see your customer base expand.
