You want to increase sales with greater productivity so you leave the office earlier to do what you love with those you love, right?
The “Receive” core practice of a Work Positive lifestyle in which you do just that involves the ethical dynamic of your business. You understand you Receive a great deal from your community of customers. This understanding prompts you to serve others.
One of my coaching clients served his community recently. He’s an insurance agent. Four of his life clients died in an automobile accident. The state had to investigate and couldn’t issue death certificates for a week. Therefore the death benefits couldn’t be released. The funeral home refused to conduct the services without advanced payment. My client served in a most remarkable way.
Here’s how he did it…and how you can serve your community as you Work Positive.
Listen
My client is Caucasian. The deceased were Haitian. This cultural diversity could have been a barrier to listening. Yet the human need to respectfully bury their dead in a timely fashion so they could grieve appropriately is what my client heard. He chose to listen beyond the cultural difference.
My client is very prosperous. The deceased were not. He took the required money from his own savings to cover the funeral expenses until such time as the life insurance paid. He chose to listen beyond the financial difference.
Perhaps you think you experience few opportunities to serve. When you listen carefully to your life around you, you discover more than you realize. Listening carefully requires you move beyond your usual habits.
Leverage
This insurance agent leveraged his own resources when he covered the funeral expenses until the life insurance paid. He represents the company so he knew they would pay. It was just a matter of a few days.
He also heard the family concerned that their small church facility wouldn’t accommodate the two thousand or so folks expected to pay their respects. He called his own pastor, and secured permission for the visitation and service to be held there.
Oftentimes, you may not serve because the opportunity seems too large. Yet, you have all of the resources you need at your disposal. Leverage the resources in front of you.
Lengthen Your Leverage
He also discovered that ten police officers were required to provide escort, each of whom would have to be paid for their services. Having other clients who are officers, he called them and secured four of the ten who donated their services, inspired by his generosity.
He also made members of his church community aware. They provided food and comfort during this time of grief.
He invited others to join him as he Works Positive, understanding that you reap what you sow, and that what goes around comes around.
When you have a long enough lever, you can truly move your community to Work Positive and serve one another. Lengthen your lever by inviting others join you in serving.
Since your business Receives from your community, listen, leverage and lengthen your leverage to create a rising tide of positivity for all.
